Ayah 1
By the star when it goes down,
English - By the star when it descends, .
Ayah 2
Not has strayed your companion and not has he erred,
English - Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, .
Ayah 3
And not he speaks from the desire.
English - Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. .
Ayah 4
Not it (is) except a revelation revealed,
English - It is not but a revelation revealed, .
Ayah 5
Has taught him the (one) mighty (in) power,
English - Taught to him by one intense in strength – .
Ayah 6
Possessor of soundness. Possessor of soundness. And he rose,
English - One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form .
Ayah 7
While he (was) in the horizon - the highest.
English - While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. .
Ayah 8
Then he approached and came down,
English - Then he approached and descended .
Ayah 9
And was (at) a distance (of) two bow-(lengths) or nearer.
English - And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. .
Ayah 10
So he revealed to His slave what he revealed.
English - And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. .
Ayah 11
Not lied the heart what it saw.
English - The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. .
Ayah 12
Then will you dispute with him about what he saw?
English - So will you dispute with him over what he saw? .
Ayah 13
And certainly he saw him (in) descent another,
English - And he certainly saw him in another descent .
Ayah 14
Near (the) Lote Tree (of) the utmost boundary,
English - At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary – .
Ayah 15
Near it (is the) Garden (of) Abode.
English - Near it is the Garden of Refuge – .
Ayah 16
When covered the Lote Tree what covers,
English - When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. .
Ayah 17
Not swerved the sight and not it transgressed.
English - The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. .
Ayah 18
Certainly he saw of (the) Signs (of) his Lord the Greatest.
English - He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. .
Ayah 19
So have you seen the Lat and the Uzza,
English - So have you considered al-Lat and al-‘Uzza? .
Ayah 20
And Manat the third, the other?
English - And Manat, the third – the other one? .
Ayah 21
Is for you the male and for Him the female?
English - Is the male for you and for Him the female? .
Ayah 22
This, then, (is) a division unfair.
English - That, then, is an unjust division. .
Ayah 23
Not they (are) except names you have named them, you and your forefathers, not has Allah sent down has Allah sent down for it any authority. Not they follow except assumption and what desire the(ir) souls. And certainly has come to them from their Lord the guidance.
English - They are not but [mere] names you have named them – you and your forefathers – for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. .
Ayah 24
Or (is) for man what he wishes?
English - Or is there for man whatever he wishes? .
Ayah 25
But for Allah (is) the last and the first.
English - Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. .
Ayah 26
And how many of (the) Angels in the heavens not will avail their intercession anything except after after [that] Allah has given permission Allah has given permission for whom He wills and approves.
English - And how many angels there are in the heavens whose intercession will not avail at all except [only] after Allah has permitted [it] to whom He wills and approves. .
Ayah 27
Indeed, those who (do) not believe in the Hereafter, surely they name the Angels name(s) (of) female,
English - Indeed, those who do not believe in the Hereafter name the angels female names, .
Ayah 28
And not for them about it any knowledge. Not they follow but assumption. And indeed, the assumption (does) not avail against the truth anything.
English - And they have thereof no knowledge. They follow not except assumption, and indeed, assumption avails not against the truth at all. .
Ayah 29
So turn away from (him) who turns away from Our Reminder and not he desires except the life (of) the world.
English - So turn away from whoever turns his back on Our message and desires not except the worldly life. .
Ayah 30
That (is) their sum of knowledge. Indeed, your Lord (is) He (Who) knows best (he) who strays from His Path, and He knows best (he) who is guided.
English - That is their sum of knowledge. Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who strays from His way, and He is most knowing of who is guided. .
Ayah 31
And for Allah (is) whatever (is) in the heavens and whatever (is) in the earth that He may recompense those who do evil with what they have done and recompense those who do good with the best.
English - And to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth – that He may recompense those who do evil with [the penalty of] what they have done and recompense those who do good with the best [reward] – .
Ayah 32
Those who avoid great sins and the immoralities except the small faults; indeed, your Lord (is) vast (in) forgiveness. He (is) most knowing about you (is) most knowing about you when He produced you from the earth and when you (were) fetuses in (the) wombs (of) your mothers. So (do) not ascribe purity (to) yourselves. He knows best (he) who fears.
English - Those who avoid the major sins and immoralities, only [committing] slight ones. Indeed, your Lord is vast in forgiveness. He was most knowing of you when He produced you from the earth and when you were fetuses in the wombs of your mothers. So do not claim yourselves to be pure; He is most knowing of who fears Him. .
Ayah 33
Did you see the one who turned away
English - Have you seen the one who turned away .
Ayah 34
And gave a little, and withheld?
English - And gave a little and [then] refrained? .
Ayah 35
Is with him (the) knowledge (of) the unseen, so he sees?
English - Does he have knowledge of the unseen, so he sees? .
Ayah 36
Or not he was informed with what (was) in (the) Scriptures (of) Musa,
English - Or has he not been informed of what was in the scriptures of Moses .
Ayah 37
And Ibrahim, who fulfilled?
English - And [of] Abraham, who fulfilled [his obligations] – .
Ayah 38
That not will bear a bearer of burdens (the) burden (of) another,
English - That no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another .
Ayah 39
And that is not for man except what he strives (for),
English - And that there is not for man except that [good] for which he strives .
Ayah 40
And that his striving will soon be seen.
English - And that his effort is going to be seen – .
Ayah 41
Then he will be recompensed for it the recompense the fullest.
English - Then he will be recompensed for it with the fullest recompense .
Ayah 42
And that to your Lord (is) the final goal.
English - And that to your Lord is the finality .
Ayah 43
And that He [He] makes (one) laugh and makes (one) weep.
English - And that it is He who makes [one] laugh and weep .
Ayah 44
And that He [He] causes death and gives life.
English - And that it is He who causes death and gives life .
Ayah 45
And that He created the pairs, the male and the female
English - And that He creates the two mates – the male and female – .
Ayah 46
From a semen-drop when it is emitted.
English - From a sperm-drop when it is emitted .
Ayah 47
And that upon Him (is) the bringing forth another.
English - And that [incumbent] upon Him is the next creation .
Ayah 48
And that He [He] enriches and suffices.
English - And that it is He who enriches and suffices .
Ayah 49
And that He [He] (is the) Lord (of) Sirius
English - And that it is He who is the Lord of Sirius .
Ayah 50
And that He destroyed Aad the first,
English - And that He destroyed the first [people of] ‘Aad .
Ayah 51
And Thamud, so not He spared,
English - And Thamūd – and He did not spare [them] – .
Ayah 52
And (the) people (of) Nuh before. before. Indeed, they they were they were more unjust and more rebellious.
English - And the people of Noah before. Indeed, it was they who were [even] more unjust and oppressing. .
Ayah 53
And the overturned cities He overthrew
English - And the overturned towns He hurled down .
Ayah 54
So covered them what covered.
English - And covered them by that which He covered. .
Ayah 55
Then which (of) the Favors (of) your Lord, will you doubt?
English - Then which of the favors of your Lord do you doubt? .
Ayah 56
This (is) a warner, from the warners the former.
English - This [Prophet] is a warner like the former warners. .
Ayah 57
Has approached the Approaching Day.
English - The Approaching Day has approached. .
Ayah 58
Not is for it besides besides Allah any remover.
English - Of it, [from those] besides Allah, there is no remover. .
Ayah 59
Then of this statement you wonder?
English - Then at this statement do you wonder? .
Ayah 60
And you laugh and (do) not weep,
English - And you laugh and do not weep .
Ayah 61
While you amuse (yourselves)?
English - While you are proudly sporting? .
Ayah 62
So prostrate to Allah and worship (Him).
English - So prostrate to Allah and worship [Him]. .
