Ayah 1
O you who covers himself!
English - O you who covers himself [with a garment], .
Ayah 2
Stand up and warn,
English - Arise and warn .
Ayah 3
And your Lord magnify,
English - And your Lord glorify .
Ayah 4
And your clothing purify,
English - And your clothing purify .
Ayah 5
And uncleanliness avoid,
English - And uncleanliness avoid .
Ayah 6
And (do) not confer favor (to) acquire more,
English - And do not confer favor to acquire more .
Ayah 7
And for your Lord be patient.
English - But for your Lord be patient. .
Ayah 8
Then when is blown in the trumpet,
English - And when the trumpet is blown, .
Ayah 9
That Day, (will be) a Day difficult,
English - That Day will be a difficult day .
Ayah 10
For the disbelievers - not easy.
English - For the disbelievers – not easy. .
Ayah 11
Leave Me and whom I created alone,
English - Leave Me with the one I created alone .
Ayah 12
And I granted to him wealth extensive,
English - And to whom I granted extensive wealth .
Ayah 13
And children present,
English - And children present [with him] .
Ayah 14
And I spread for him, ease.
English - And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. .
Ayah 15
Then he desires that I (should) add more.
English - Then he desires that I should add more. .
Ayah 16
By no means! Indeed, he has been to Our Verses stubborn.
English - No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. .
Ayah 17
Soon I will cover Him (with) a laborious punishment.
English - I will cover him with arduous torment. .
Ayah 18
Indeed, he thought and plotted.
English - Indeed, he thought and deliberated. .
Ayah 19
So may he be destroyed, how he plotted!
English - So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. .
Ayah 20
Then may he be destroyed, how he plotted!
English - Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. .
Ayah 21
Then he looked;
English - Then he considered [again]; .
Ayah 22
Then he frowned and scowled;
English - Then he frowned and scowled; .
Ayah 23
Then he turned back and was proud,
English - Then he turned back and was arrogant .
Ayah 24
Then he said, "Not (is) this but magic imitated.
English - And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. .
Ayah 25
Not (is) this but (the) word (of) a human being."
English - This is not but the word of a human being." .
Ayah 26
Soon I will drive him (into) Hell.
English - I will drive him into Saqar. .
Ayah 27
And what can make you know what (is) Hell?
English - And what can make you know what is Saqar? .
Ayah 28
Not it lets remain and not it leaves,
English - It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], .
Ayah 29
Scorching the human (skin).
English - Blackening the skins. .
Ayah 30
Over it (are) nine- -teen.
English - Over it are nineteen [angels]. .
Ayah 31
And not We have made keepers (of) the Fire except Angels. And not We have made their number except (as) a trial for those who disbelieve - that may be certain those who were given the Scripture and may increase those who believe (in) faith, and not may doubt those who were given the Scripture and the believers, and that may say those in their hearts (is) a disease and the disbelievers "What (does) intend Allah by this example?" Thus does let go astray Allah whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows (the) hosts (of) your Lord except Him. And not it (is) but a reminder to (the) human beings.
English - And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve – that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. .
Ayah 32
Nay! By the moon,
English - No! By the moon .
Ayah 33
And the night when it departs,
English - And [by] the night when it departs .
Ayah 34
And the morning when it brightens,
English - And [by] the morning when it brightens, .
Ayah 35
Indeed, it (is) surely one (of) the greatest,
English - Indeed, the Fire is of the greatest [afflictions] .
Ayah 36
A warning to (the) human being,
English - As a warning to humanity – .
Ayah 37
To whoever wills among you to proceed or stay behind.
English - To whoever wills among you to proceed or stay behind. .
Ayah 38
Every soul, for what it has earned, (is) pledged,
English - Every soul, for what it has earned, will be retained .
Ayah 39
Except (the) companions (of) the right,
English - Except the companions of the right, .
Ayah 40
In Gardens, asking each other,
English - [Who will be] in gardens, questioning each other .
Ayah 41
About the criminals,
English - About the criminals, .
Ayah 42
"What led you into Hell?"
English - [And asking them], "What put you into Saqar?" .
Ayah 43
They will say, "Not we were of those who prayed,
English - They will say, "We were not of those who prayed, .
Ayah 44
And not we used to feed the poor,
English - Nor did we used to feed the poor. .
Ayah 45
And we used to indulge in vain talk with the vain talkers,
English - And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it], .
Ayah 46
And we used to deny (the) Day (of) the Judgment,
English - And we used to deny the Day of Recompense .
Ayah 47
Until, came to us the certainty."
English - Until there came to us the certainty." .
Ayah 48
Then not will benefit them intercession (of) the intercessors.
English - So there will not benefit them the intercession of [any] intercessors. .
Ayah 49
Then what (is) for them, (that) from the Reminder they (are) turning away
English - Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away .
Ayah 50
As if they (were) donkeys frightened,
English - As if they were alarmed donkeys .
Ayah 51
Fleeing from a lion?
English - Fleeing from a lion? .
Ayah 52
Nay! Desires every person of them that he may be given pages spread out.
English - Rather, every person among them desires that he would be given scriptures spread about. .
Ayah 53
Nay! But not they fear the Hereafter.
English - No! But they do not fear the Hereafter. .
Ayah 54
Nay! Indeed, it (is) a Reminder.
English - No! Indeed, the Qur’an is a reminder .
Ayah 55
So whoever wills, (may) pay heed to it.
English - Then whoever wills will remember it. .
Ayah 56
And not will pay heed except that wills Allah. He (is) worthy to be feared, and worthy to forgive.
English - And they will not remember except that Allah wills. He is worthy of fear and adequate for [granting] forgiveness. .
