Ayah 1
He frowned and turned away,
English - The Prophet frowned and turned away .
Ayah 2
Because came to him the blind man.
English - Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. .
Ayah 3
But what would make you know that he might purify himself,
English - But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified .
Ayah 4
Or be reminded so would benefit him the reminder?
English - Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? .
Ayah 5
As for (him) who considers himself free from need,
English - As for he who thinks himself without need, .
Ayah 6
So you to him give attention.
English - To him you give attention. .
Ayah 7
And not upon you that not he purifies himself.
English - And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. .
Ayah 8
But as for (he) who came to you striving,
English - But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] .
Ayah 9
While he fears,
English - While he fears [Allah], .
Ayah 10
But you from him (are) distracted.
English - From him you are distracted. .
Ayah 11
Nay! Indeed, it (is) a reminder,
English - No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; .
Ayah 12
So whosoever wills may remember it.
English - So whoever wills may remember it. .
Ayah 13
In sheets honored,
English - [It is recorded] in honored sheets, .
Ayah 14
Exalted, purified,
English - Exalted and purified, .
Ayah 15
In (the) hands (of) scribes.
English - [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, .
Ayah 16
Noble, dutiful.
English - Noble and dutiful. .
Ayah 17
Is destroyed [the] man, how ungrateful is he!
English - Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. .
Ayah 18
From what thing He created him?
English - From what substance did He create him? .
Ayah 19
From a semen-drop He created him, then He proportioned him,
English - From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; .
Ayah 20
Then the way, He made easy for him,
English - Then He eased the way for him; .
Ayah 21
Then He causes him to die and provides a grave for him,
English - Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. .
Ayah 22
Then when He wills, He will resurrect him.
English - Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. .
Ayah 23
Nay! Not he has accomplished what He commanded him.
English - No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. .
Ayah 24
Then let look the man at his food,
English - Then let mankind look at his food – .
Ayah 25
That [We] [We] poured the water (in) abundance,
English - How We poured down water in torrents, .
Ayah 26
Then We cleaved the earth splitting,
English - Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], .
Ayah 27
Then We caused to grow therein grain,
English - And caused to grow within it grain .
Ayah 28
And grapes and green fodder,
English - And grapes and herbage .
Ayah 29
And olive and date-palms,
English - And olive and palm trees .
Ayah 30
And gardens (of) thick foliage,
English - And gardens of dense shrubbery .
Ayah 31
And fruits and grass,
English - And fruit and grass – .
Ayah 32
(As) a provision for you and for your cattle.
English - [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. .
Ayah 33
But when comes the Deafening Blast,
English - But when there comes the Deafening Blast .
Ayah 34
(The) Day will flee a man from his brother,
English - On the Day a man will flee from his brother .
Ayah 35
And his mother and his father,
English - And his mother and his father .
Ayah 36
And his wife and his children,
English - And his wife and his children, .
Ayah 37
For every man among them that Day (will be) a matter occupying him.
English - For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. .
Ayah 38
Faces, that Day (will be) bright,
English - [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright – .
Ayah 39
Laughing, rejoicing at good news.
English - Laughing, rejoicing at good news. .
Ayah 40
And faces, that Day, upon them (will be) dust,
English - And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. .
Ayah 41
Will cover them darkness.
English - Blackness will cover them. .
Ayah 42
Those [they] (are) the disbelievers, the wicked ones.
English - Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. .
